With the New Year on the horizon many of you might be tossing around your “New Year’s resolutions.” Whether they’re about new behaviors, new financial goals or new weight-loss goals and whether you speak them out loud or keep them private we wish you the best in your accomplishments. Of course, we want to tell you one of our own New Year’s resolutions.
As we enter 2011 we plan to incorporate book reviews on our blog. We had a little help from the One2One Network on our first one – they provided the copy of the book for us to read and review. We’re thankful for their support.
Here is our first book review and we hope to bring you many more:
Whether you’ve been a lifetime dieter or never dieted “Cinch!: Conquer Cravings, Drop Pounds and Lose Inches,” by Cynthia Sass isn’t your typical diet book, that’s for sure. Honestly I didn’t expect to learn much. Or should I say I didn’t expect to learn anything new. Boy, was this mother and wife of 20 years wrong. I’d have to admit that I learned something new on just about every single page and my thoughts about dieting, eating, weight loss and exercise were completely overhauled.
Besides learning new concepts such as meal timing, puzzle-building meal formulas, the importance of flavors, how to reset and rev up your metabolism, eating specific produce, whole grains, lean protein, plant-based fat and of course the author’s creatively nicknamed “SASS” seasonings- (slimming and satiating seasonings)– I learned the most simple way to eat and lose weight at the same time. The “Cinch” five-day fast forward plan was for me ( I found out after I took the test) and the “Cinch” month-long plan will eventually become a 12-month plan since I want the lifelong benefits of living life the “Cinch” way! And get this, eating dark chocolate every single day is mandated when you adopt “Cinch” as your new way of eating. The book is worth reading just to find out why Sass is so adamant about eating dark chocolate every day!
If there’s one thing I especially like about “Cinch” it’s how Sass fortified her chapters with ‘side bars’ on related topics. This is where her “diet” book becomes more. Sass incorporates mini-history lessons on topics such as: coconut yogurt, soy, chocolate, grapes, frozen vs. fresh, organic farming, emotions in relation to weight and there’s even a superb question-and-answer section.
I’ve always considered myself a ‘diet rebel.’ Meaning I don’t believe in dieting and I’ve always tried to burn off more than I take in. “Cinch” helped to re-program me away from chaos, inconsistency and a lack of having an eating pattern.
Because Sass explains the main foods used in “Cinch” – spinach, raspberries, almonds, eggs and yogurt – with such thoroughness and offers more than 100 meal “puzzle” combinations – I know I’ll never be bored. What appeals to me the most in “Cinch” is the Mediterranean style of eating. This is the area I was glad to gain knowledge in and the “Cinch” style of grocery shopping, preparing and cooking meals will certainly become a new way of eating and living for my family.
