About
Welcome to Obsessive Coupon Disorder! Our team is made up of several very creative and talented Michigan women – Stephanie, Monica and Lisa.
Steph as we like to call her, is first and foremost a wife and mother. She’s been married 18 years to Brian (founder of www. ocdsavings club.com) and together they have two children – well, two teenagers, is more accurate. Both teens, ages 13 and 16, are national dance champions. Since their toddlerhood, Steph has dedicated thousands of hours toward driving her girls to and from dance practices five nights per week, costume making, set designing and building, traveling to competitions all over the country, maintenance at the dance studio, dance studio photography, working on dance promos and recital programs, behind-the-scenes and backstage assistance, security at competitive events and ticket selling. There really isn’t an aspect of dance she hasn’t tackled – other than putting on a tutu herself and teaching the class. There’s a piece of framed art in her office featuring a ballerina with this quote, “Dancing is like dreaming with your feet.”
Steph is retired from the corporate world. The company she worked for downsized and eventually relocated to Minnesota, leaving her jobless. It seemed like a relief in many ways. Her new freedom as a stay-at-home-mom allowed her to focus more on her family, husband, children, household, and of course, dance.
Her interests include photography, sewing, Italy and Italian life and culture, baking, cooking, canning, gardening, herb-growing, scrapbooking, camping and her two dogs – Brodie and Katie.
After realizing unemployment checks didn’t pay the bills, she paved a new direction for herself. With guts and determination she teamed up with her friend Monica (also unemployed from the same company) to forge a partnership that would help launch an online coupon savings club. Steph and Monica give instructional classes at hotel conference centers to people with one common goal – “I want to save money!” To date, the pair of moms have taught their OCD Savings Club methods to more than 2,300 people and they are still going strong.
She’s been married to Ron for 12 years. Monica also is a stay-at-home-mom raising a 16-year old son and a 10-year old daughter. While most moms inquire, “Is your homework done?” Monica actually joins her kids during homework time. She’s got a full load of classes since she is in the process of completing her nursing degree. (That corporate lay-off she experienced persuaded her to return to her dream of becoming a nurse.)
Without a lot of free time, Monica manages to juggle her role as a wife, mother, student and active contributor to OCD Savings Club. She enjoys camping, NASCAR races, Friday night football games, scrapbooking, reading and volunteering at her church.
And last but not least, meet Lisa.
Lisa has been married to Kevin for 20 years and is raising a 16-year old son and a 12-year old daughter. She joins the ranks in being a stay-at-home-mom but also dabbles in part-time (like writing for this blog!) work such as freelance writing for a newspaper and working with her church youth group.
Her interests include writing, poetry (reading or writing it), reading books, discovering new authors, book stores (especially used book stores), any Great Lakes beach, camping, working out at the local Y, going to concerts, period-piece or historical movies, volunteering (she doesn’t know how to say no!) and her most favorite thing — tucking her kids into bed at night!
Between Steph, Monica and Lisa the trio is involved (or their kids are) in dance (ballet, tap, jazz and gymnastics), cheerleading, football, soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, power lifting, bowling, Sunday school, catechism classes, altar-serving, music lessons and youth groups.
These three women also serve as a support to one another during a health, parenting, marital, school, homework, meal-planning, financial or any other crisis. Bad hair-days and days of feeling stressed, tired or overwhelmed don’t seem as difficult when they’re shared among friends. Car-pooling, chore-trading and caring for the kids are easily swapped among the three moms. But, by far, the greatest gift shared is the gift of faith. Having friends who are believers in Christ make all the difference in the world. A few of our favorite Scripture verses include:
- “With God all things are possible.” Genesis 18:13
- “This too shall pass.” 1 Corinthians 10:12
- “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3
Our hope is that your experience here is one of learning, savings, and enjoyment. In addition we would be “pleased as punch” to gain new friendships in the blog world and be inspired by what you have to share with us.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions using the “Contact Us” tab at the top of the page.

CVS has Kellogg’s Cereal for $1.77 a box. When I scanned by CVS Rewards card upon entering the store, I received a coupon $3.00 off of $10.00 on groceries.
So, I ended up doing the following:
2 boxes of Fruit Loops = Regular Price $8.58 – $5.04 sale = $3.54 – $1.50 MFC = $2.54 for both
2 boxes of Rice Krispies = Regular Price – $8.98 – $5.44 sale = $3.54 – $1.00 MFC = $2.00 for both
2 boxes of Raisin Bran – Regular Price – $8.98 – $5.44 sale = $3.54 – $1.00 MFC = $2.54 for both
$26.54 – $7.08 – $3.50 MFCs -$3.00 (CVS grocery) – $1.00 Extra buck coupon – $2.00 Extra Buck coupon = TOTAL PAID Out of Pocket today $1.12
Oops! The regulard savings was $15.92 not $7.08 (that was the total of the sale prices). Sorry about that!!!
Thanks for the info Jill!
Hello Ladies,
So sorry to here about the downsizing but you have me so curious as to which company relocated to Minnesota, my home state.
In our heated political races, some people say so many companies would leave MN if our high corporate taxes got any higher so it was interesting to hear that we have companies moving in.
I love your name and site design. I just found you today through Deal Seeking Mom!
We were employed with Andersen Windows. They had a logistics center here in Birch Run MI. Their main corporate office is in Bayport, MN. They hired more help at corporate to do our jobs…
Thanks for the kudo’s! We are glad we are getting more followers!
I have heard of Andersen. Thanks!
The best of luck to all of you in this new venture. Also, I followed you on Twitter. I don’t know about your other readers but I like to view my Twitter feed and then follow a posted link through to the blog. Just an idea.
I wish you success. I did look at your site and liked it. If your are sharing sites there is one I think is pretty amazing; http://www.goodguide.com/
Really good information to know about the products we use and how they impact our earth. They go even further into a companies behavior, like how they treat their employees. The site is messy – too cluttered for my tastes or patience. But if you work through the maze you will find some great information about the products we use and their impact on our earth, our community and our children.
nice bios like the lisa one
So inspirational too see women who went through hard times come up on top and succeed!…especially sisters in Christ!!!
I also live in Michigan. Do you know which Kroger stores double coupons up to 1.00? Also, are there any other stores that double up to 1.00. I live near Brigton/Howell. Thanks for all you help. I love your website and visit a couple times daily. Thanks
Hi Karen! Thanks for visiting our site and for your comments. Look for an April 7 post regarding the stores in Michigan that double. We thought a post on this topic would benefit you as well as other Michigan shoppers.
I was just wondering if you have Couponing DVD’s on sale? Or, even better come on down to NC!
I just found you and enjoy the site.
Thanks-
Hi Pam R,
We’re glad you discovered us! Your DVD is a great idea, we’ll have to look into that. Our sister site http://www.ocdsavingsclub.com offers coupon classes but they’re all in Michigan. We’ll search around for you to help you find a couponing class in your area.
Being a therapist, your site name quickly caught my eye. Great name and wonderful site. Thank You!
Denise, Thanks for the compliment! We thought it was catchy for couponers! Glad therapists like it, too. Stop back again soon!
Hello Ladies!
Love the Bible verses. My favorite is “I can do all things through Christ which strenghtneh me” Phil.4:13.
We are a family of three, with a dog Sally and a cat Koya and a fish Fred. I have been lay off three times and currently working as an Independent Distributor of a High Fashion jewelry company. I cannot tell you how much stress I am under. Seen the bills coming in and not enough money to pay for it. Be behind the mortgage only adds to the stress level. I started using coupons to make ends meet with groceries, but I am still don’t see how can I save by using it. Every time I get a coupon, the item is not on sale and by the time it come on sale, the coupon has expired. Can you help me? I need guidance on this matter. Thank you so much for your website. I just discover it through the All You magazine smalll article Monica Freier and Stephanie Nelson posted about the collection of rain water.
PS: I suggest the All you magazine to everyone out there looking for coupons. Every month they include awesome ones! I wish they did not print it behind the articles that you want to keep. God bless you all . Brazilian by Birth, American by Choice.
Marilene – Thanks for taking the time to write and share your thoughts. We’re happy to know you learned about us from our favorite magazine, “All You.” We’re sorry to hear about all of the stress you are experiencing but it appears you’re a self-motivator since you’re looking for alternative ways to save money. Using coupons is a great start! Be patient with yourself and feel free to explore our coupon database, store match-up lists and printable coupon resources to assist your weekly shopping trips. We’re rooting for you!
